Book Summary 📚
31/07/2020, I’ve just finished reading the book. Below, I will try to give 10 key points/rules or even quotes that caught my attention while reading this amazing book.
1. The Dip is a book treating the paradox of quitting and sticking. Is “NOT QUITTING “always a good strategy to adopt ?
2. Average is for losers, First is for winners. (Vanilla ice cream flavor anecdote) It is 100 definitely/really worth being 1st in some domains. The winners take the biggest part of the cake.
3. The Dip is what separates you from being average. When it gets hard, it’s then when things become interesting. If you suck it, you will make a huge gap with concurrence.
4. Obstacles create scarcity, scarcity creates value. Be happy when it gets hard.
5. Chose your battles. Be aware if you’re facing a dip or a cul-de-sac. Is my persistence going to pay off in the long term ?
6. Sometimes, quitting is a good strategic decision to adopt in order to re-orientate your energy towards what it is worth.
7. If quitting a task will increase my ability to get through the dip on something more important, what am I waiting for? Let quitting be a strategy to be better.
8. ‘Never Quit’ is spectacularly bad advice. ‘Never Quit smth with great long-term potential just because you can’t deal with the stress of the moment is a good one.
9. Advice: Write down under WHAT circumstances you’re willing to quit and WHEN. Otherwise, you are in the obligation to stick to it. When things get tough, and you feel that pressure to quit, read it, read it aloud. Then decide: Suck it or Fuck it.
10. Pride is the enemy of smart quitters. Never be too proud to quit. Never let your ego prevent you from quitting when it is the right decision to make.
This book is really short. These are just some bullet points that stuck to my mind during the reading this week. I really encourage everyone to read it, especially if you want to become a benchmark in your field.
