TOP civil engineering youtube channels
Civil engineering is a very exciting subject, with a lot of content out there, which can be both a positive point (because of information availability) and in the same time overwhelming, since the overflowing amount of information needs to be sorted, and critically chosen, which already demands a certain level of mastery of the studied subject. What a vicious cycle !!
During the last years, I spent a lot of time as a civil engineering student looking for online resources that can help me improve my understanding of the subject. I managed to find some. Unfortunately, french content is very poor compared to english/american content.
In the following I will list some of the youtube channels I think every civil engineer should check, or at least know about:
1. The Efficient Engineer is a channel that simplifies mechanical and civil engineering concepts, one video at a time, From beam theory, strain, stresses, failure theories, trusses, buckling and so one.
If you only have to retain one thing from this article, it is definitely to go check this channel right away, the videos and explanations are just outstanding. This channel has already helped thousand, if not million of students and engineers understand the physics behind the theoritical models.
No words can fully describe how much this channel helped, and is still helping me. Pure Gold.
Video example from the channel’s content – The Efficient Engineer.
2. Practical Engineering is also an educational channel but with different style, it is more about the applications of civil engineering in the human-made world around us. With a lot of genious videos. Grady Hillhouse, a professional civil engineer (PE), and educational video producer in San Antonio is really doing a great job explaning various civil engineering concepts in unique ways.
3. DR. GREGORY MICHAELSON is a professor at Marshall University. In his channel, his shares a good part of the modules he teaches there as well as engineering seminars. A lot of helpful content.
4. If becoming a Professional civil engineer (Charted Engineer in UK), the CEA channel (Civil Engineering Academy) is one of the best resources you can find out there. Their podcast is a must check.
5. Brendan Hasty is a structural engineer with over 15 years of experience based in Australia. He has a passion for good structural design and teaching/mentoring. This channel is to share his passion for engineering and provide entertaining short clips on
– Tips for young engineers on progressing their careers.
– Design approaches.
– Review past engineering failures to improve structural knowledge.
